Is there one special Keukenhof tulip?
No. Keukenhof is not built around one single tulip variety. Around 800 different tulip varieties are used across the park, ranging from familiar single tulips to double, fringed, lily-flowered and parrot-style forms.
The exact combinations change each year because the planting designs are renewed every season.
What colours of tulips can you see?
Visitors can see white, cream, yellow, orange, red, pink, purple and near-black tulips, as well as multicoloured and striped varieties. Designers often plant several colours together to create contrasts or softer colour gradients.
Why do the tulips not all flower at once?
Different tulip varieties naturally flower at different moments. Keukenhof uses early, mid-season and late varieties so the park keeps changing through spring.
Weather still plays an important role. A warm spring can accelerate flowering, while colder conditions may slow it down.
Where can you learn about historic tulips?
The Historical Garden is particularly useful if you are interested in older tulip varieties and the history of bulb growing. It provides context for how tulips became such an important part of Dutch horticulture.
Can you buy the tulips you see?
Not every variety displayed at Keukenhof is necessarily available to buy in exactly the same form or from the same grower. A separate flower-bulb landing page is being prepared on TulipHolland.com where available tulip and flower products can be shown with purchase links.
How to photograph tulips at Keukenhof
Look for lower viewpoints, colour combinations and paths that create depth. Early or later in the day can be useful when you prefer softer light and fewer people in the background.
