What is De Tulperij?
De Tulperij is the family flower farm of Daan and Anja Jansze in Voorhout. Rather than being a large theme attraction, it gives visitors a more personal introduction to flower growing in the Dutch Bulb Region. You can walk through the show garden, see many varieties of spring bulbs, relax in the greenhouse, buy local products and flower-related gifts, and learn more about how tulips, narcissi and dahlias are grown.
The farm is especially useful for travellers who want to combine several different experiences in one stop: flowers, photography, picking, food and drink, shopping and farm stories. The atmosphere is smaller-scale and more agricultural than Keukenhof, so the two experiences complement each other well.
Do you need a ticket for De Tulperij?
No ticket is needed for general access or the show garden. You do need a separate paid ticket if you want to join the organised photo visit inside the commercial production field. Tulips picked in the picking garden are paid for separately.

The free tulip and spring-flower show garden
The show garden is one of the best reasons to visit De Tulperij even if you do not book a paid activity. In spring, the garden displays a wide mix of tulips, narcissi, hyacinths and other spring bulbs. The farm also describes a dedicated narcissus show garden developed with CNB, featuring more than 200 varieties.
Visitors can walk along the paths, compare colours and flower shapes and use the garden as inspiration for their own garden or balcony. The show garden is free to visit.
Good to know: the show garden and the production field are not the same thing. The show garden is open to visitors; the commercial production field can only be entered as part of the paid photo experience or another authorised activity.
Photos in the tulip field: tickets, prices and how it works
If you want the classic photograph standing among rows of tulips, De Tulperij offers controlled access to its production field. This is different from entering a random roadside field: visitors are taken to the field by the farm and can enjoy the flowers without ignoring private-property rules.
The published experience gives visitors more than 45 minutes in the production field. A member of staff accompanies the group, so there is also an opportunity to ask questions about tulip cultivation.
| Ticket | Currently published price | What it is for |
|---|---|---|
| Adult | €8 | Timed access to the production field for photographs |
| Child 4–12 | €6 | Timed access to the production field for photographs |
Arrive at the meeting point in the large barn around five minutes before your time slot. Prices and availability can change, so confirm the details on the booking page before paying.
Can you pick tulips at De Tulperij?
Yes. De Tulperij has a tulip picking garden where visitors can create their own bouquet when the flowers are ready. You do not pay a separate entrance fee for the picking garden; the tulips you choose are paid for in the greenhouse.
The picking season is controlled by nature. Warmth, cold, rain and sunshine all influence flowering, so the farm cannot guarantee that picking is available every day of the spring season. If this is an important part of your visit, check De Tulperij's latest flowering updates shortly before you travel.
Visitors receive care advice for keeping the tulips fresh at home. It is an easy activity for couples, friends and families with children.
Creative workshops at De Tulperij
De Tulperij also runs creative workshops during the flowering seasons. The exact programme, dates and availability change through the year, so workshops should be seen as bookable seasonal events rather than a walk-in activity that is available every day.
If you are looking for a painting activity, the currently published programme includes painting a glass vase with flowers and decorative gold leaf. Other workshops listed by De Tulperij include:
Paint a flower vase
Decorate a round or conical glass vase with paint and finish it with decorative gold leaf under professional guidance. Materials plus coffee or tea and a choice of cake are included in the published workshop format.
Dot painting on porcelain
Decorate tableware with a dot-painting technique. The workshop can also be arranged for groups, subject to the farm's current schedule.
Pick dahlias & arrange a bouquet
During the dahlia season, selected workshops combine picking flowers with learning how to create a spiral-bound bouquet.
Bulb lasagna workshop
Choose tulips, narcissi, hyacinths and crocuses and plant them in layers, creating a container designed for a long sequence of spring flowers.
Flower embroidery & creative crafts
The programme can include embroidery and other seasonal flower-inspired creative sessions led by specialist instructors.
Dahlia photography workshop
Selected dates may include photography instruction for experienced nature photographers during the dahlia season.
Workshop dates are seasonal. The workshop examples above are based on the programme currently published by De Tulperij. Check the official workshop calendar for the latest 2027 dates, prices, minimum group sizes and registration instructions.
Food and drinks at De Tulperij
You do not need to leave immediately after seeing the flowers. De Tulperij has a cosy greenhouse café and a sunny terrace. The greenhouse also makes a useful indoor stop when the spring weather is cool or wet.
The published menu includes coffee, tea and soft drinks as well as wine, a local tulip beer and a tulip cocktail. Sweet options include artisan apple pie, homemade vegan banana bread, meringue-pecan cake, freshly baked stroopwafels and seasonal specials. Gluten-free cake options are also mentioned by the farm.
This makes De Tulperij easy to use as a relaxed coffee-and-cake stop during a cycling route or a longer day combining Keukenhof with the flower fields.
Shop: bulbs, tubers, souvenirs and local products
The shop sells more than typical tourist souvenirs. Depending on the season, visitors can find flower bulbs and tubers from growers in the Bollenstreek, seeds, potted flowers, vases, seasonal decorations, local products and gifts.
Spring is also a useful time to see varieties growing in the show garden before deciding what you might like at home. De Tulperij states that dahlia tubers are sold in spring, while spring-flowering bulbs can be selected in the shop during the later dahlia season for autumn planting.

Free parking at the flower farm

Campers and caravans cannot park at De Tulperij.
The NetherlandsUse the signed access road and allow extra travel time during busy tulip-season weekends.
Bus tours to De Tulperij from Amsterdam
Yes, you can visit De Tulperij as part of an organised coach tour from Amsterdam. This is one of the easiest options if you do not want to drive, cycle or work out public transport through the Bollenstreek yourself.
Keukenhof + De Tulperij + Windmill Cruise
Hop On Hop Off Holland operates a spring day trip that combines a behind-the-scenes visit to the tulip farm with a 60-minute windmill cruise and admission to Keukenhof. Transport between the stops is by coach, and the tour departs from THIS IS HOLLAND at Overhoeksplein in Amsterdam, a short free ferry ride from Amsterdam Central Station.
The tulip-farm part of the programme is more than a quick photo stop: guests learn about flower-bulb growing and get an organised opportunity to see and photograph the flower fields. After the morning programme, the tour continues to Keukenhof, with flexible return options to Amsterdam on the scheduled coaches.
Coach groups and tour operators
De Tulperij also welcomes tour operators, coach groups and organised group visits. The farm can arrange a programme around the time available, including a guided flower-field or dahlia-garden visit, time for photographs, the show garden, coffee or tea with homemade cake, the bulb and souvenir shop and the terrace.
The official tour-operator information states that there is plenty of parking and that the farm is easy to reach from the main roads. However, the final approach along Oude Herenweg is narrow, so coach visits should be arranged in advance with De Tulperij. Group enquiries can be sent to info@detulperij.nl.
How to get to De Tulperij
