Quick answer

Does Keukenhof have a playground?

Yes. Keukenhof's official playground information says there is a Miffy playground for the little ones and a playground for older children. The park describes the play experience as climbing, sliding and scrambling.

Why the playground matters on a family visit

Keukenhof is famous for tulips, flower shows and landscaped gardens, but children do not always want to spend several hours moving from flower bed to flower bed. The playground gives them a place to be active and gives families a natural break in the sightseeing route.

This can be especially useful halfway through a visit. Instead of trying to see every garden in one continuous walk, families can alternate between flowers, play, animals, food and indoor pavilions.

Miffy playground for younger children

The best-known children's area is the Miffy playground, named after the Dutch character Nijntje. Keukenhof specifically identifies it as the playground for younger children. On its current family page, Keukenhof also mentions eating poffertjes at the Miffy playground as part of a family day.

If you are visiting with toddlers or younger primary-school children, this is the playground to prioritise. Allow enough time for children to play without making the rest of your route feel rushed.

Nijntje / Miffy in 2027: Miffy is currently listed to visit Keukenhof on Wednesday 14 April 2027. Exact programme times are still subject to confirmation. Read the complete Miffy at Keukenhof 2027 guide →

Playground for older children

Keukenhof also lists a separate playground for older children. This means families with children of different ages do not have to rely only on the toddler-focused Miffy area.

The official description emphasises climbing, sliding and scrambling. Exact equipment can change, so we recommend planning around the type of play rather than expecting one particular structure.

Combine the playground with the Animal Meadow

One of the easiest family combinations is the playground plus the Keukenhof Animal Meadow. The Animal Meadow gives children a quieter viewing stop, while the playground is the active part of the route.

There is an important difference from the old-fashioned idea of a petting zoo: Keukenhof says visitors cannot enter the Animal Meadow and should admire the animals from a distance.

Keukenhof also highlights stepping stones across the water. The value of these activities is variety: a family visit can move between looking, walking, playing and discovering.

Visiting with a baby or stroller

Keukenhof says its wide paved paths make the park easy to explore with a stroller. Restaurants have high chairs and staff can warm baby food, while changing pads are available in both women's and men's restrooms.

There is one useful limitation to know before arrival: you cannot rent a stroller inside Keukenhof. Bring your own if your child may need one later in the day.

Scooters and skates

Keukenhof asks visitors not to bring scooters or skates. The reason is simple: the park can become busy, and fast-moving children's equipment does not mix well with crowded paths.

If your child normally uses a scooter for longer walks, plan extra breaks instead and use the playground as the place for active movement.

How long should families spend at the playground?

There is no official time limit. For planning purposes, allow at least 20–45 minutes if the playground is an important part of your visit, and longer if your children do not want to leave quickly.

This is one reason families often need more than the approximately three-hour average Keukenhof visit. Read our Keukenhof visit-duration guide if you are deciding between a short and relaxed visit.

Family planning tips

  • Visit before children are overtired. The playground is more useful as a planned break than as a last resort.
  • Do not promise a five-minute stop. If your children love playgrounds, build real playtime into the schedule.
  • Bring layers. Keukenhof is an outdoor spring attraction and weather can change quickly.
  • Bring your own stroller. There is no stroller rental in the park.
  • Use restaurants for baby-food warming. Keukenhof notes that food trucks do not provide this facility.
  • Plan food before the hunger crash. See our Keukenhof food & drink guide.
  • Use the Animal Meadow as a quieter follow-up. It can be a good transition from active play back to walking through the gardens.
